LATEST ISSUE OF
Mike Moore's Profitable Speaking # 54 A monthly newsletter for speakers and those who want to become well paid motivational speakers Speaker/Humorist Mike Moore Visit Mike's Press Room A Few Words from Mike * I just finished a keynote speech to 350 nurses in Toronto at the Westin Prince Hotel. Had a great time. My topic was Caring for the Caregiver. Did you know that medicine/caregiving is the second most stressfull profession. Number one is Information Technology and number four is Teaching. * I have another on the 26th of April in Sudbury ON Canada to Nephrology nurses. I had to look up just what nephrology was. For those like me who didn't have a clue, it has to do with the kidney. Anyway I am looking forward to it as nurses are a fun bunch to work with. NEW ONLINE FORMAT As you can see I am doing things a bit differently this month. I am sending you a link to the online issue of Profitable Speaking rather than sending the entire issue to you via email. My reason for the change has to do with just who reads it. Every month I send out PS to about 3000 subscribers and according to my tracking system very few respond to my cartoon links, information links, requests for more information or requests for article, tips or questions. I am left thinking that very few actually read this ezine anyway so why do two copies of each newsletter. Most of my sales come from people visiting my online webpages and few from my readership. It is frustrating when I really want to help you get started in this wonderful field but few respond. If I am doing something wrong and not meeting your needs please let me know. So I will continue sending you an email containing the link to where you can find the latest issue of PS online. If you are really interested you can click the link and get your monthly public speaking fix. I guess you can say that I want to discourage tire kickers and only want to deal with people who are serious about public speaking. You don't have to buy just get involved. When you contribute you get free publicity to 3000 people plus your contact information is included. ********************************** You can be the best speaker in the world but if nobody asks you to speak you are nowhere. It was a great experience and a lot of fun to do. The Resulting audio CD is called, " The Art of Storytelling" ( Connect with Your Audience) an interview with Mike Moore If you would like a copy sent to you for only $20.00 I will cover the shipping and handling charges. For More Information Visit Here ****************************** Terrific Tips How to Get New Topics from Your Existing Material Recently I was approached by two organizations to see if I could speak on Caring for the Caregiver and Staff Appreciation. I thought that since I speak on Humor and Human Potential and Humor and Stress Management my content could easily be adjusted to suit these two topics without much trouble at all. I went to my content files and selected suitable relevant content. Then I adjusted the context to fit each new group. One was a nursing conference and the other a business group. The business group proved to be the easiest since I speak to business groups all the time. The nursing conference proved to be a bit more difficult but nothing I couldn't handle with a little research. Having been raised in a family of nurses helped me in my awareness of the problems they experience in caregiving. Reading the responses and contributions by nurses on various nursing forums on the internet also increased my awareness, understanding and empathy. Next I went to my story files and selected stories related to health, medicine and wellness. All I had to do to most of them was alter the context slightly to make them more nursing/caregiver oriented. With all this material in hand I put together two speeches using content with which I was already familiar. Now I have two new speeches adjusted to two new niche topics. ******************************* * Structuring the Room I find that I am more comfortable speaking when the chairs are arranged in a half moon shape with a large aisle down the middle. There is something too formal and stiff about theatre style seating. If the audience is large then I have three aisles, one down the middle and one on each side. When I am speaking I move within the audience making certain the I give each aisle equal time. I just find that a half moon is more intimate and intimacy with my audience is important to me. I don’t like being above them( on a stage) or too far from them. ********************************** Accessing Different Budgets The other day I was asked to speak for about $800 below my usual fee. I was hesitant at first until I was asked if I could give them a discount on a bulk order of my books. It seemed that the planners were interested in providing each member of the conference with a copy of my book Light Up with Laughter as part of a gift bag each attendee will receive. There will be 115 people attending the conference at $13.00 a book minus a 20% discount for bulk orders. I will also get the chance to set up a table and sell my many other books, CDS etc. You can see it was in my best interest to accwpt a lower fee. **************************************** Humorous One liners for Speakers * A closed mouth gathers no feet * Oh Lord make my words palatable because tomorrow I may have to eat them. * The noblest of dogs is the hotdog; it feeds the hand that bites it. * In the old days people who saved money were misers; today they're miracle workers. * If athletes get athlete's foot, do astronauts get mistletoe? * If at first you don't succeed you're running about average. *************************************** I am now offering my complete speaking system for a very reasonable price.
